about

Tony Nirta was the sixth of seven children; he and several siblings developed muscular dystrophy although he was less affected than the other siblings and was able to drive for a time.

He was given a guitar by his Calabrian family in his first year of high school. One day, he dragged this guitar to school and plugged it in to test the sound, to play to himself, unaware that he'd plugged into the whole school PA system and become infamous.

Tony wrote in earnest and recorded from 1979. In 1984 he met Kate Chinnick (later Watson) and Paul Koszyca in Adelaide, South Australia. The resulting band was named Mudmen and they wrote prolifically and performed a few gigs.
Paul left the band a year or so later, while Tony and Kate kept writing and recording.

The group wanted to put together an album of songs they could go out and play to a live audience, in the making of Path, although they played a mere four or five live shows in support. It was recorded at a time of changing protocols, in between an eight track Tascam and digital production.
